Sound familiar?

A fresh floor shouldn’t leave you fighting the door.

New carpet and underlay can raise the floor enough for a door to drag, leave a mark or stop opening altogether. Laminate, wood and other new flooring can change the clearance too.

If the door catches against the frame, the answer may be an adjustment rather than a cut along the bottom. Show us where it rubs so we can choose the right approach.

A straightforward job, done carefully

From catching to closing.

1. Show us the problem

Send your postcode, door count and photos of the whole door and the area that catches. Tell us whether your new floor is already fitted.

2. Agree the visit

Rodger checks the details, confirms the price and arranges a suitable time. Include every affected door so we can plan the work together.

3. Trim, rehang, check

We assess the door, remove it where needed and use the appropriate trimming method. Once rehung, it is checked across the floor and at the frame.

The right method for your door

Care at the edge.
Care with the finish.

Solid timber, hollow-core, moulded, veneered and engineered doors need different handling. We check the construction, available trimming allowance and finish before deciding how much to remove.

Trimmed edges need suitable protection too. Let us know if the door is prefinished or fire-rated so the relevant details can be checked before the visit.

Fire doors require extra care with manufacturer guidance, certification, gaps and seals. Send a photo of any label or identifying mark along with the door.

Before you book

A few useful answers.

Should I book before or after the carpet goes down?

Tell us your fitting date when you enquire. The final clearance needs to suit the finished flooring, including the underlay and any changes in floor height.

How much needs to come off?

That depends on where the door catches, the floor beneath its opening arc and the door’s construction. We assess the actual clearance and trimming allowance rather than applying one gap to every door.

Can you sort several doors together?

Yes. Tell us the total when you enquire, including cupboard doors that are catching. Booking them together lets us plan one visit and confirm the full cost.
