Doors Won’t Close After New Flooring

Door trimming after new flooring · Glasgow

New carpet down.
Doors stuck?

Thicker underlay, a new threshold or a raised floor can leave a perfectly good door dragging. Rodger assesses the clearance, trims where appropriate and checks the door once it is rehung.

Find the cause first

Flooring changes the clearance.

Carpet & underlay

A thicker combination can rub against the bottom edge throughout the door’s swing. We assess against the finished floor.

Laminate, timber & LVT

Added layers, thresholds and changes in height can also catch a door. Show us the floor on both sides.

Frame or hinges?

If it rubs at the side or top, shortening the bottom may not solve it. Tell us exactly where it catches.

Plan around the fitter

When should you book?

Enquire before the flooring goes down if you know the fitting date. Tell us when the rooms will be ready and whether doors have been removed by the fitter.

The final clearance needs to suit the finished flooring, including underlay and thresholds. We’ll agree the visit around those details.

Don’t force a dragging door across your new floor. Show us the problem so we can choose the right approach.

Check before cutting

The door matters too.

Solid timber, hollow-core, veneered and engineered doors have different construction and trimming allowances. Photos help us assess what is involved.

If a door is fire-rated, tell us and include any label or identifying mark. Manufacturer guidance and the complete doorset need checking before work is agreed.

Before the visit.

Do I need to measure the gap?

No need to measure everything first. Send a whole-door photo, a close-up of the catching edge, your postcode and the number of doors.

Can doors already removed by the fitter be rehung?

Tell us which doors are off and whether their hinges and fixings are available. We’ll confirm the work and price from the details.

What if the floor is uneven?

Clearance is assessed across the door’s opening arc. A local high point or threshold can affect the approach, so include a photo.

Let’s take a look

Send your postcode.
Show us your doors.

Tell Rodger how many doors are catching and what has changed. Two photos are a useful start: the whole door and the edge that rubs.

Not sure what kind of door you have? That’s fine. Send what you can and we’ll work from there.
